New Evidence Unearthed for the Origins of the Maya

The Mayans were a group of people that lived from 300 to 950 AD, with origins that nobody knew for sure until an archeologist named Takeshi Inomata decided to investigate its past. Many people believed that the Mayans were a branch of the Olmec while others believed it was an independent civilization. Inomata disagreed with both of these theories due to some of his recent evidence that he 'dug' up in Ceibal, Guatemala. Mayans were known for their magnificent plazas and beautiful pyramids but not many are still around. This is what led Inomata to believe that the original temples bases were buried underneath the new stone ones. He began excavating the site of a temple in Ceibal and sure enough, he found exactly what he was looking for; a small set of steps for a temple made of earth. It was a sign of settled life. He believed that while the Olmec were creating large cities, the Mayans were just a small tribe of nomads. The two groups never met but when the Mayans became sedentary, they adopted the culture and traditions of the Olmec. During the pre-classical time period, the Olmec an Mayans weren't well distinguished so nobody knows if Mayans were truly Mayan. In order to find out more about the Mayans, Inomata decided to keep searching further away from the temple toward past residential and agricultural areas for the three years to come and hopefully, by then, we shall have a clear knowledge of the origin of the Mayans.

Chinese Poem

Crystal clear water
Still and serene
Fish paddling looking for food
Land jutting out of the water
Towering above the waves
Grass still wet with dew
Rice being pulled out, one by one
The shade of the tree
Protects the life within
The sun shines brightly
Warming everything in its path
The flowers groping to cliffs
Hanging by green snake-like vines
Mother Nature watching over Earth
As it changes day by day

Excellent. You can really visualize the scene here. Mr. Chester

Muhammad (S.A.W)

Muhammad was a prophet and political leader who united most of Arabia and parts of the world under Islam. When Muhammad was 6, his mom died and he was sent to his grandfather, Abdul Muttalib. After he died, his uncle, Abu Talib, cared for him and taught him how to trade. When he turned 40, he married Khadija. Muhammad was very religious. He went to a cave in the mountains to pray and one day the angel Gabriel appeared before him. He told him that he was a prophet of Allah and taught him how to read the Qur’an. He went back to Mecca and started to preach Islam. When Islam started growing, the Meccans decided to boycott them so it they would be eliminated. The followers were strong but Khadija and his uncle died during this time. A traveler asked Muhammad to visit Yathrab (re-named Medina) to preach. He did and decided to live there. Mecca soon decided to make a truce yet after a few months they attacked the Muslims. The Muslims fought back and won. The Muslims were allowed back in Mecca. When Muhammad returned to Medina, he died and the rule of caliphate began.

A Cookie of a Life

My life is a cookie
Eaten with a latte
Its warm and soft
But it doesnt always turn out that way
It may burn or crack
Or even fall on the floor
Or turn out bitter
Or just taste wrong
But I will always try
And Try again
And when they taste great
I'll share with a friend
There is going to be mistakes
when you try to bake
the amazing cookies
you want to make
But like they say
Practice makes Perfect
When they come out good
It'll be totally worth it
My life is a cookie
A sugar cookie Of course
Bright and Colorful
And yummy when its not coarse

Are there bad cookies? True some don't turn out great, but I've never thrown one away. Dakota will eat any burned batches. Good work here. 4's on everything. You can go ahead and copy your Alice message to the main page. Mr. Chester

Mr. Chester, if you burn chocolate chip cookies, will Dakota still eat them? Chocolate is bad for dogs... and kind of bad for us.
~ Ashley K.

Chocolate is actually more bad for cats than it is for dogs...
dogs get very sick while cats could potentially die! :o
~Hattie

Dakota will eat them. She'll eat anything. Mr. Chester
